Nominations open for CFO of the Year Awards

In the past couple of years, it has been all about the numbers for businesses and keeping them going in the right direction — or at least deftly operating within market conditions.

This year Memphis Business Journal will recognize those individuals responsible for keeping companies on sound financial footing through its inaugural CFO of the Year Awards presented by platinum sponsor Vaco, an accounting and financial services placement firm.

Gold sponsors are law firm Butler, Snow, O’Mara, Stevens & Cannada PLLC, Iberia Bank and accounting firm Thompson Dunavant PLC. Trade association Financial Executives International is centerpiece sponsor.

Nominations are now open for CFO Awards in six categories. Three awards will be given in the category of private companies: small (annual revenue of $10 million up to $50 million); medium (revenue of $50 million up to $100 million); and large (revenue more than $100 million). CFO Awards also will be given in the categories of public company, nonprofit organization and Lifetime Achievement.

Nominees must be a chief financial officer or hold an equivalent position at a company headquartered in Memphis or the Mid-South. Entries will be based on criteria including financial management, company leadership, strategic thinking and contributions to the industry or community outside the company.

A panel of independent judges will determine the winners based on performance of their company during the period between January 2009 and June 2010.

Deadline for submitting nominations is July 30.

Winners will be announced during a breakfast event Oct. 22 at the Holiday Inn University of Memphis.
