Experience 
Danny serves as member in Thompson Dunavant's tax services group.  He has thirty years public accounting experience in both national and local firms.  Danny works primarily with closely-held businesses and their owners.  In addition to income tax planning and compliance, he provides business advisory services for the entity and a wide array of planning services for the entity owners including financial consultation, retirement and estate planning, and succession planning.  As a result of this segment of Danny's practice, he has significant experience with trusts, which includes trust taxation and proper utilization of trusts.  There is a wide range of industries represented in Danny's experience including professional services firms, retail and wholesale businesses, and corporate trustees.

Another significant part of Danny's practice includes representation of taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service in controversy and collection matters.  He has extensive experience in representing clients during the examination and through the appeals process.

Professional Affiliations 
Throughout his career, Danny has been very active in various professional organizations. He currently services as Chair of the AICPA’s IRS Practice and Procedures Committee. During his five years on the committee he has served on a number of task forces that have addressed a variety of taxpayer and tax practitioner issues. On a state level, Danny has served on the TSCPA Federal Taxation Committee for over ten years. For five years he served as chairman and in 1999 was honored as Chairman of The Year by the TSCPA. He also serves on the TSCPA Federal Tax Conference Committee. Locally, Danny has been active with the Memphis Chaper of the TSCPA. He served in a a number of leadership positions including serveral years as chairman of the Memphis Chapter federal tax committee. He is a member of the Memphis Estate Planning Council and Tax Watch. His favorite civic organization is Rotary International and is a member of Rotary Club of East Memphis.

 

He has contributed to professional publications on various technical tax matters, including The Tax Advisor and Tennessee CPA Journal. Additionally, Danny has been interviewed for articles in The Wall Street Journal and the Memphis Business Journal.

 

Danny is licensed in Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama.
