Experience
Prior to joining Thompson Dunavant in 1999, Brian practiced as a state local expert at two Big Four Accounting firms -- Arthur Andersen LLP in Atlanta, Georgia and Ernst & Young LLP, in Memphis, Tennessee. Brian’s entire career has been devoted to the practice of public accounting and he has over 16 years of experience assisting clients with complex tax transactions.
Brian understands the challenges businesses face from multi-state operations. Brian has helped clients identify and manage all aspects of state and local taxes -- income/franchise, sales/use, and property taxes. In particular, Brian has successfully represented clients in audit matters at all levels -- fieldwork, administrative conferences, and at the trial court level. Brian’s background and experience in law and taxation allows him to effectively communicate his clients’ positions and to efficiently resolve cases.

Professional Affiliations
Brian has been a member of Tennessee Society of CPA’s State and Local Tax Committee for eight years and was chairman for three years. Through his committee involvement, Brian has developed relationships with the Commissioner’s office of the Tennessee Department Revenue that allow him to represent clients more effectively. Brian is also actively involved in the legislative process by providing comments on pending legislation to the Tennessee Department of Revenue on behalf of the Tennessee Society of CPA’s.
Brian also serves as a Director for the Memphis Chapter of the Tennessee Society of CPAs. Brian was recently selected to serve as Secretary for this organization. Brian is a also member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Bar Association, and the Mississippi Bar Association.
